The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is seeking individuals to join the Red Abalone Recovery Plan Community Working Group. Applications for serving on the Community Working Group must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024.

The Community Working Group is an informal advisory body that will offer Tribes, stakeholders, and interested members of the public an opportunity to advise and inform the development of the Red Abalone Recovery Plan. The group will be asked to provide feedback on drafts of the Red Abalone Recovery Plan and share community perspectives, priorities and concerns about the plan.

The Red Abalone Recovery Plan will use a science-based approach to support recovery of the red abalone population to sustainable levels. The goal of the plan is to facilitate a robust, adaptive, climate-ready approach to improving the health of the population in the face of changing ocean conditions.

Applications for the Community Working Group are now open!

CDFW is seeking applicants who represent the following sectors:

  • California tribes
  • Former recreational abalone fishers
