The CCA LA Chapter put on a great Bluefin Seminar, hosted by the South Bay Anglers Club, at the Alpine Village in Torrance.
Western Outdoor News Saltwater Editor and CCA CAL advocate Merit McCrae started things off from the science perspective behind Pacific Bluefin Tuna by explaining fish maturity, their life cycles, and also explain more about Dr. Barbara Block’s Tag-A-Giant Program.
Jacob Moreno, captain of the charter boat Ultra out of 22nd Street Landing in Long Beach, and is now one of the captains on their newly acquired charter boat, Pescador. Moreno used the opportunity to talk about how to fish for bluefin while on a charter boat and while on party boats as well.
Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about all kinds of methods and techniques behind catching bluefin from private boater and bluefin expert Ben Secrest. He went into techniques of how to be the most successful at catching bluefin, which included how to fish with flat falls, great private boat technique and how to fly the kite effectively.
A big thanks goes out to LA Chapter President John Ballotti, LA Vice President Matt Groff, CCA State Board Member Wendy Tochihara, and everybody who came out to talk bluefin with us!
