Governor Gavin Newsom has signed California Assembly Bill 1949 into law on the last day of September. AB1949 will help to strengthen and expand the Ocean Resources Enhancement and Hatchery Program (OREHP), which is California’s one-of-a-kind marine enhancement hatchery program that is currently based in Carlsbad.

As the longest-running program of its kind in the country, the OREHP program has taught us a lot about how to raise hatchery fish to replenish marine populations. This new law begins a brand new chapter in the history of this unique program.

Special thanks to Assembly member Tasha Boerner Horvath for helping us in getting AB1949 across the finish line.
