Captain Rollo’s Kids At Sea had their biggest event of the year in June when Tuna Wars V kicked off while fishing was great! The Liberty and Tomahawk, which both call Fisherman’s Landing in San Diego home, took out about 25 anglers each, many of which are loyal members of CCA and serve as board members for the local San Diego chapter.

Captain Rollo’s Kids at Sea organizes marine-awareness fishing trips for children who might not otherwise have such an opportunity to go fishing. While on a trip, the youth are educated and get to learn hands-on about ecosystems that exist in our coastal waters. Since 1999, over 130,000 children have benefitted from the program.

Stars of National Geographic Channel’s hit-series Wicked Tuna, Captains Paul Hebert and Dave Marciano, have been involved with Tuna Wars since the beginning and both fished the event this year, as Hebert was on the Tomahawk and Marciano was on the Liberty.

Hebert and the Tomahawk came out on top with turning in their three biggest fish that had a combined weight of 402.2 pounds, while Marciano and the Liberty came in with 311.9 pounds of fish.

One of the main organizers of Tuna Wars, Mike Lum, who also is a dedicated member of the State Board for CCA California, deemed Tuna Wars this year to be a huge success on both boats.

“Wicked Tuna Captains Paul Hebert and Dave Marciano are the catalyst to Tuna Wars. If not for their generosity to take the time to come out and do this each year it wouldn’t exist,” Lum said. “Thanks to everyone’s generosity, this event will allow us to add 1800 more kids to the program this year.”

CCA California has partnered with Captain Rollo’s Kids at Sea in the past to help put on trips for kids which are ran by the local CCA chapters, and have plans to continue to do that later on in 2019.

The real winners of the event are the kids that get to go fishing because of the generosity of Hebert, Marciano and all of the anglers who fished on the boats for the 2-day event.
