The new 2024 recreational regulations booklet was posted on March 1st. CDFW has made some updates to the format with the intent to make the booklet as useful as possible.
Some key changes are:
- The format is now 8.5×11”, so if someone wants to print all or a portion of it on their own they can.
- The document will now be “living,” and any updates will include a change to the version date found on every page.
- Change to alphabetic order – our booklets have previously been organized by Title 14 section number, which I’ve always found confusing to anyone other than people like me who live and breathe it. We’ve organized each section alphabetically to make things easier to find. Note that in some cases, regulations for certain species require a cross reference to another species, but I think the new format is still easier to follow.
- New Regulations Summary Table – starts on page 43. Honestly, this is the biggest change. We’ve created a table of species (again alphabetical) with the season, size limit, bag/possession limit. We are hoping this makes an easy reference that could be printed on its own, without all the other details. Of course groundfish require referencing other locations, since their information changes so often, but we are hoping people like this new addition.
- More Fish ID information – since the document isn’t printed, we added more cool ID tools to the end.
