Throughout most of the summer, the local chapters from CCA California played a huge roll this year in helping taking kids fishing from many different backgrounds and from many different parts of Southern California.
The CCA Inland Empire Chapter took the opportunity to take Cub Scout Pack 421 from Corona out on the Western Pride out of Davey’s Locker in Newport Beach. Many kids were accommodated by their parents and siblings, many of whom have never been out on the water. By the end of the day, many of those same families recounted one of their best days ever, and many walked off the boat pledging to come back on a boat soon as it gets their kids outside and outdoors, away from the electronics and isolation. This entire effort was arranged by CCA Inland Empire Secretary Steve Rickard, plus sponsored by Friends of Rollo. Also, a big thanks to Okuma Fishing USA for providing some swag for each kid!
We also had our CCA North Los AngelesĀ and CCA San Diego Chapters help host our annual kids trip collaboration with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, the Sportfishing Association of California and Friends of Rollo. Since 2021, all three groups have partnered on a number of trips each year to take kids and their families out fishing on sport boats up and down southern California. CDFW provides the education piece to all kids who come on these trips, and puts emphasis on educating the kids on ocean health, species and regulations, and best practices while on the ocean. SAC and Friends of Rollo help provide the boat and funds to make these trips happen. All while CCA California provides the volunteers and manpower in putting the trips on, many of which is provided by our local chapter volunteers.
