The Southwest Council of Fly Fishers International (SWCFFI) and Coastal Conservation Association California (CCAC) have announced Riptide Rendezvous, a surf fishing fundraising tournament open to everyone. There are separate divisions for fly- and regular-tackle fishermen.
You can fish from May 27 thru June 23, anywhere from the northern end of Santa Barbara County to the Mexican border. The awards ceremony and raffle will be held at the Long Beach Casting Club on June 24.
This is a catch-and-release tournament, with scoring based on the length of the fish caught. Prizes will be awarded for: most inches of fish caught in a day, and largest fish in several different species. A smart phone app is required to log your catch.
Registration costs just $25 (16 and under are free) and ends May 26.
