Captains David Bacon and Tiffany Vague led a SAFE at which they taught pier-fishing skills to approximately 60 novice anglers of all ages. With a grant from Elks National, the Santa Barbara Elks Lodge 613 purchased 100 new rods, reels, and line at a very generous price from Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. (thank you very much Doug Lasko!) which the Elks gifted to the anglers.
With expert assistance from Jaime Diamond, SB Chapter members greeted the public at a “Join CCA CAL Booth.” Many thanks to Chris Arechaederra for transporting all materials needed! We are very pleased to report that, in addition to explaining the CCA CAL Major Goals and our 30 x 30 Campaign to dozens of people, we also recruited three new members, including one annual and two Life Members, bringing our 2023 New Life Member Total to “Five!”
Encouraged by the success today, the Chapter and the Elks plan to refine our advertising strategy, and to hold another SAFE clinic this Summer (hopefully after repairs to the Goleta pier) to present the remaining supply of rod-reel combos, and to continue the “Join CCA CAL” and “30 x 30 Campaign.”
