California could be looking at a true 365-day license policy being approved by the California State Assembly this year. Assembly Bill 1387, authored by Assembly member Jim Wood, would bring a true 365-day license to California, where licenses would expire 365 days after the date of purchase. This is a change from the current calendar-based system that the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) implements.
In January, CDFW partnered with multiple Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) including CCA California in an effort to push the the Recruit, Retain, Reactivate (R3) National Program, which is geared towards attracting new anglers and hunters in the state of California. Part of that effort would be to bring a true 365-day license to California.
