California Fishing & Ocean Workshops

By May 24, 2017No Comments

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW) California Fishing Passport program would like to help more men, women, and children go fishing. Beginning the weekend of June 10-11, 2017 we are offering FREE Ocean Fishing Workshops to teach people about California’s many ocean fishes, the environment they live in, and how to fish for them.

This two-day ocean fishing workshop will be held out of Dana Point in Southern California and registration is open to people of all ages and ability levels.

If you are new to ocean fishing, or want to introduce a friend or family member to saltwater angling, we encourage you to sign up for this exciting and unique experience!

California fishingThe workshop, which begins on Saturday, June 10, 2017 will teach participants some basic fishing skills and much more in a classroom setting at Dana Point Harbor. CDFW staff and Fishing Passport Ambassadors will share local knowledge and fishing tips, fish identification pointers, and ethical angling practices. Biologists will provide insights into the locations and habitats where different types of fish reside, special concerns about certain species and the ocean environment, and some biological information about each type of fish. Later in the day, participants will have the opportunity to meet some of our local wildlife officers and learn about the fishing regulations that will be important to know before heading out to fish.

On the second day of the workshop, Sunday, June 11, 2017, all participants will be given the opportunity to put their new fishing knowledge and skills to work aboard a 3/4-day charter fishing trip on the Dana Pride with Fishing Passport staff, fishing pros and volunteers!
